Autodesk has released the latest version of its 3D visualization production software, Maya 2022.1. Let's take a look at some of the highlights together!
New features such as search tool, interactive introductory tutorials, component tag options and new falloff types for deformers have been added, alone with a new start home and the return of Maya's Viewcube to optimize the use process and use experience.
| Search Tool & Return of Viewcube
A new global search system has been added to Maya 2022.1, allowing user to get quicker access to all tools and objects by typing in the search bar. The new search feature, accessing by hotkey ‘Ctrl+F’, supports both precise search and related search. Meanwhile, you may add your own keywords for a smoother workflow.
In addition, Maya’s viewport navigation widget, the Viewcube, has been restored to enable users to simulate the camera and get “feedback about the current camera view in relation to the 3D scene”.
| New Interface & New Exoerience
The update releases a new launch screen for users to get start to all projects and get access to the two newly added starter tutorials easily.
| New Component Tage Options
More options has been added for Component Tags, allowing user to have more access control over tag membership.
| Deformer Updates
Deformer gets two new falloff modes: the subset mode uses Component Tags to apply deformation to only part of a mesh and the falloff uses custom 3D objects to control falloff.
In addition, it is now possible to edit the color ramps used to visualize falloffs during falloff weighting.

More features including:
USD, the plugin that bundling in Maya 2022, has been updated to support EXR textures and import of USDZ files. In addition, new options has been added in USD for converting materials and saving edits to disk.
Two main plug-ins Bifrost and Arnold, focusing on bug fixing, have also been updated in this release.
New Stage node and UI overlays are geared to using Maya to create your own interactive tutorials and presentations.
