Autodesk has launched the newest iteration of its production renderer,Arnold 7.2.4. It is a feature release bringing improved toon outlines, better interactivity, faster light sampling, better USD and as well as many bug fixes and performance improvements.
This update enhances internal edge recognition within the toon shader and improves rendering speed in scenes with multiple mesh lights. It also extends compatibility with OpenColorIO and MaterialX.
When considering non-photorealistic graphics and the sampling of mesh lights, Arnold 7.2.4 stands out. While compared to other recent versions of Arnold, Arnold 7.2.4 is a smaller update.
The toon shader has seen an upgrade in its ability to identify internal boundaries. This ensures that previously overlooked borders now get accurately depicted.
Performance improvements include better sampling of mesh lights, with render times on scenes with multiple mesh lights reduced by "up to 5%".
There are new capabilities for OCIO color space aliases within the OCIO color manager. Additionally, the removal of restrictions on node naming conventions in custom MaterialX node definitions.
