Chaos has unveiled Corona 12 Update 1, the latest iteration of its renowned production renderer for 3ds Max and Cinema 4D. This update introduces several significant features, including enhanced integration with Vantage, improvements to caustics rendering, an innovative AI-based image upscaling system, and expanded collaboration tools for Chaos Cloud. Check key Updates in Corona 12 Update 1:
| Vantage Live Link: Real-Time Scene Updates
Update 1 introduces the Vantage Live Link, enhancing the integration between Corona and Vantage, Chaos’s GPU-accelerated ray tracing renderer. This feature allows for real-time updates: changes made in 3ds Max or Cinema 4D are instantly reflected in the Vantage viewport. This GPU-powered alternative to Corona's interactive rendering offers a faster way to explore large scenes in real time. However, it is important to note that animation rendering in Vantage has been postponed to a future release.

| Improved Caustics Rendering
Corona 12 Update 1 brings enhanced support for caustics, the light patterns created when light is refracted or reflected. The update improves the accuracy of caustics passing through smoke and fog, and introduces a new Caustics Multiplier, offering better control over their brightness. Caustics now render faster with significant noise reduction, resulting in clearer, more visually appealing light patterns within the same render time.

| New Auto Exposure and White Balance Features
Corona now includes automatic exposure and white balance adjustments, providing more intuitive control over scene lighting. These settings can be baked into the scene or kept active for dynamic adjustments during animation rendering.

| AI-Powered Image Upscaling
A major new feature is the introduction of an AI-based image upscaling system. This allows users to render images at one-quarter of the final resolution and then upscale them, significantly reducing rendering times by up to four times. This upscaling technology, developed by NVIDIA, is hardware-agnostic and supports AMD and Intel GPUs. However, the process is not temporally stable and is best suited for tracked animations, as flickering may occur.

| Chaos Scatter and CXR Export Enhancements
Corona 12 Update 1 also includes improvements to Chaos Scatter, with a new set of predefined distribution maps for more efficient object scattering. Additionally, users can now export Corona EXR (.cxr) files directly from Cinema 4D, streamlining batch rendering processes and improving workflow.

| Enhanced Collaboration in Chaos Cloud
The update extends collaboration features within Chaos Cloud, Chaos's cloud rendering service. Users can now share rendered images directly from the VFB (Virtual Frame Buffer), make and review text-based comments, and manage image versioning. Additionally, users can create interactive virtual tours of projects, with Hotspots for navigation. However, unlike in V-Ray 7, Hotspots must be placed manually in Corona.
