Epic Games has released the Unreal Engine project developed during the Project Titan art jam for free download. This comprehensive 8km x 8km open-world environment was created by over 1,400 contributors over a 10-week period and includes custom tools and video tutorials for users.
| A Monumental Collaborative Effort
Project Titan, held between March 28 and June 7, 2024, is one of the largest collaborative game art jams ever staged. Over 1,400 participants contributed more than 10,000 assets, including 200 character skeletal meshes, 5,000+ materials, and over 180 Niagara particle systems. The project’s open-world landscape has been refined and is now optimized for use across a wide range of platforms, from mobile devices to high-end PCs.
| A Valuable Learning Resource for Unreal Engine 5
This sample game, available under a standard license through Epic Games' new online marketplace, Fab, serves as a valuable resource for learning Unreal Engine 5's world-building capabilities. While the assets can be used in commercial projects, Epic Games advises treating the project as primarily a learning tool. Due to the nature of its creation, the project is not necessarily focused on best practices, but rather on showcasing the innovative use of key Unreal Engine 5 technologies, including Nanite, Landmass, and Mover for character animations.
Accompanying the download is a series of training videos, including mini-tutorials and critiques by industry experts, offering insights into the project’s development and areas for improvement.
| System Requirements and Availability
The Project Titan sample is compatible with Unreal Engine 5.5 and above. It is available under the Fab Standard license, allowing use of the assets in commercial projects.
