Planetside Software has released Terragen 4.5, the latest version of its landscape-generation software.
Better integration with PBR workflows in the Default Shader
With the release of Terragen 4.5 the shader’s settings, tabs and layout has been updated to maximize compatibility with Metallic / Roughess, and Specular / Glossiness workflows based on the Physically Based Rendering (PBR) model.
Metalness controls is newly added for 3D models created with the Metalness/Roughness.
Default Shader and Reflective Shader have two new specular roughness models: “GGX” and “Beckmann TG 4.5”. “Beckmann TG 2” is also available for backward compatibility.
The default settings and slider ranges for the Default, Glass and Reflective Shaders have all been updated to reflect the changes the way that specular roughness is handled.
OpenColorIO (OCIO) Integration in Professional Edition
OpenColorIO(OCIO) is integrated into Terragen 4.5 Professional, allows you to work with colour spaces consistently with other applications in your pipeline.
Render View updates
Changes to the Render node’s tonemap and gamma settings will cause an immediate update to the Render View on both finished renders and in-progress renders.
Motion blur sampling has been improve. The image will rendered exactly on the camera values for that frame without any interpolation when he motion blur checkbox is off.
Temporary deferred shading data seen during rendering are now held in the alpha image rather than the main image.
Better Atmosphere, Clouds and Lighting
GI caches for Terragen’s Easy Cloud and Cloud Layer systems can now be stored and reused to speed up the rendering process.
The Lighting tab of Planet Atmosphere has two new potions called “Rayleigh phase function” and “Better cache radius”.
The former enables to generate more realistic atmospheric light scattering.
And the latter, improves the resolution and accuracy of enviro light (GI) in the atmosphere.
Pricing and availability
Terragen 4.5 is available for 64-bit Windows 7+ and Mac OS X 10.8+. The update is free to users with current maintenance contracts.
New licences of Terragen 4 Professional cost $699; Terragen 4 Creative, which has a restricted set of features and caps maximum output resolution, costs $349.
