History of Annecy
Annecy Festival is the most ancient animation festival of the four international animation festivals, embracing Mifa, the world’s largest professional animation market. Thus, it enjoys the reputation of “Oscar” in the animation world.
In the 1960s, it began as an active film club with the Jica (Journées internationales du cinéma d’animation) and Asifa (an international animation film association)
In the 80s, it took the economic dimension of the event into account, and created the Mifa (International Animation Film Market).
In the 90s, its influence greatly increased. At that time, the American studios largely participated in this event. Then in 2000s, the Festival was flourishing and the created CITIA (l'établissement public de coopération culturelle)
In 2010, it reached its 50 years of existence as a mature festival, while the Mifa celebrates its 30th birthday in 2015.
This year, Annecy is going to celebrate its 60th anniversary and pay a tribute to African animation.
Three sectors of Annecy 2021
The first sector is the Festival. It includes the exhibitions, studio focus, screening events, unveiling of the Awards and so on. There are three highest awards, Cristal Award, Jury Award and Audience Award in competition in terms of feature films, short films, TV and commissioned films and graduation films.
The second part is the Mifa. Mifa (International Animation Film Market) is the foremost event in terms of co-production, purchasing, selling, financing and distributing content for all broadcasting platforms. It includes Mifa Campus, partner conferences, partner pitches, “Meet The” events and so on. This year, the Mifa will welcome more than 800 international exhibiting companies, including XRender.Hope we can meet there.
The last part is Meetings, containing the exchanges between the professionals, the presentation of works, Master Class and so on.
