Autodesk has shipped its multiphyics plugin Bifrost for Maya 2.3 to improve the interactivity for 3D creation. The update enables user a more interactive, expressive and robust workflow with multiple improvements including new feature releasing, performance optimization and bug fixing. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights now!

| Optimize Worflow with More Interactive Slider

Users now can adjust numeric properties fluidly via virtual sliders in the GUI, and see the changes to the simulation in real time.

Virtual Sliders

The slider also supports exponential changes. Users can adjust the speed by:

Shift+drag for 10× speed

Ctrl+drag for 1/10 speed

Ctrl+Shift+drag for 1/100 speed

The live simulation also works for all unconnected input types such as fcurves, allowing users to see the subsequent value changes with a faster graph.

| Fix Broken Graph with Unknow Nodes

Missing nodes and connections alone with other exceptions that caused by wrong operation like name changing of JSON files that leads to graph brake, has now by replaced with unknown nodes. This lets you see the graph as it existed before, and gives you a chance to fix or update the graph more easily.

Unknown nodes

In addition, users can now merge multiple small JSON files into a single large one, cutting Bifrost loading times to “as little as two seconds”, and reducing time to first pixel in Arnold renders.

| What' More

The updates supports simulation parameters driven by fields and arrays to make the simulation graphics more expressive. You may check the example of creatin a noise field with the internal structure of snow and ice in MPM and plug the noise field directly into firmness to make snow break apart in art-directable ways that posted in the update blog.

Other changes including simply the Aero’s post-simulation with just one connecting, better viewport display of adaptive volumes, Alembic and OpenVDB export improvements and so on.

The new version of Birost now supports Maya 2019, 2021 and 2022 only. For more updating information, please check the Bifrost 2.3.0.0 Release Notes.
