| VFX Assets
Compositing Academy, the Nuke compositing tutorial provider, has released four free 2K explosion VFX assets, licensed for use in commercial projects.
The package includes four free multi-layered linear EXRs and users can adjust the glow and emission passes within compositing software, or even relight the explosions entirely to match the background plate.
The VFX assets can be separated into layers in any software capable of importing EXR format, such as Nuke, After Effects, Blender, Natron, Davinci Resolve / Fusion, etc. You may download the package from Gumroad by typing “0” in the box here
ActionVFX, the stock footage site for visual effects, updated its free VFX assets library, free for downloading and licensed commercial usage:
- 6 real emergency flare elements in 2K resolution in ProRes 422 HQ with bright and dim versions all included.
- 50 surface imperfection textures, such as scratches, smudges, fingerprints, dust, in both 2K and 5K as 16-bit PNG format.
- 19 hand-drawn cartoon fire and smoke elements delivered in HD and 4K at 23.98fps.

| HD Sky & Plant Models
If you are looking for ultra HD images for your projects, MattePaint, the quality reference photography provider, should be a good choice.
You can now download 1,800 free 2K sky images, with 2,000 x 1,000px resolution, spans a 120-degree field of view and can be used in digital matte paintings, or as backplates in 3D scenes. Each commercial 360-degree HDRI has a corresponding set of four free lower-resolution images – that is, four 90-degree rotations in view – which could be stitched back together into a LDR panormama. For environment artists, you may get the 90 free plant models, including 15 temperate and semiarid plant species, such as broad-leaved trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants and grasses from Maxtree.
