Blender Foundation has reveal the latest version of its open-source 3D modeling and animation software, Blender 3.2. Get to know more about new features with XRender!
Significant improvements mainly relates to its efficient and realistic render engine Cycles, new painting tools, modeling and more.
| Cycles: Light Groups, Shadow Caustics and More
A new kind of pass that only contains lighting from a subset of light sources can now be combined in the Compositor and used separately or together to adjust the light of the scene. This is surely a more efficient way to optimize the scene since re-rendering is not required when modifying is happening in the scene in this new version.
Cycles now also supports “selective rendering of caustics in shadows of refractive objects.” The new feature is developed based on a method called “Manifold Next Event Estimation” and recommended to use in situation like underwater caustics and eye caustics rendering.
Other new features including adding support for motion blur for gas simulations and imported OpenVDB volumes, AMD GPU rendering for Linux, aliases for OpenColorIO color space and so on. For more new features about Cycles in Blender 3.2, pleased the released note here.
| New Painting Tools for Modeling & Texturing
Several options have been added in new version that enables users to paint in Sculpt Mode with different colors. Highlights including a new paint brush for with a bunch of new settings for freely customization, a new smear brush for smear dragging, pinch and expand and more. All the new tools can be found on the left-side-bar.
| Geometry Nodes, Assets and More
The Geometry Nodes System gets a big update, with many performance improvements, as well as new nodes, which you may give a watch of all changes here. However, the update also break the compatibility with Blender 2.93 and earlier, so if you are going to use the new version, please note the flies made with version 2.93 and before may meet some error when launch with the new version.
The asset browser, originally introduced in version 3.0, with the collection assets feature that allows users to add and manage assets more orderly, is no longer experimental.
