The two animations, “Mountain and Flowing Water” and “Nostalghia.” are designed as entries for a brand- series theme short film about the Chinese traditional culture, of which the broadcast time is specified. In the limited project time, it is still challenging to successfully complete these two short films.

We were extremely glad when invited by Tencent Pictures to produce themed series of short films. This series is mainly to create stories about the integration of national cultural heritage and modern technological development. Great ideas came in mind and we really want to tell the story with the CG magic.
“Mountain and Flowing Water” adapted from the story by Ming Dynasty writer Feng Menglong. The short film unfolds with a bleak back, hinting at the tragedy of the story.

The director transferred the stage from the shore to the river due to the time limit (8 minutes in total) and drew out an amazing scene for the story.
The story began with the encounter of Boya and Zhong Ziqi on the river. Boya was a qin player and was really glad to meet Zhong Ziqi, a bosom friend who never failed to understand the thoughts he wanted to express through the sound of qin.

The death of Zhong Ziqi pushed the story to its peak. The change of Boya’s appearance and the senses told the passing of time, the crying and sound of qin expressed Boya’s grief. At the end of the story, everything came back to silence, made us feel sorry about the loss of soul mate.

Nostalghia
“Nostalghia” named after the eponymous film by Andrei Tarkovsky in 1983, aiming to express the longing for hometown and the gratitude to the people who have contributed to the development of the country.
The story was based on the theme of rural education and incorporated a very modern musical element, violin. It collided with the solidified and conservative countryside and creates a wonderful spark.
The background of the story took place in the western rural areas of western China in the 1980s. A group of eight people took a one-week field trip to remote villages in the southwest, and collected a large amount of local cultural and geomorphological data, ensuring the authenticity and rigor of the design source.
