Monster Run is a fantasy film adapted from the eponymous novel by The ALA’s Alex Award winner, A. Lee Martinez.
It tells a story about Ji Mo (Jessie Li), a young woman who spent the past few years in a mental hospital to treat her diagnosed paranoid personality disorder: as a child, she would have visions of monsters. Having found a job in a convenience store, she’s hoping for an ordinary life and copes with the visions of monster, which haven’t subsided.
It was until Meng, a monster hunter,(Shawn Yue) barged in the store where Ji Mo works with his partner Paper (a living piece of paper voiced by Qiao Shan) and hunts down a monster right in front of her did she realized that the monsters are real.
Ji Mo thus walked into a magical new world. After she and Meng experienced several catastrophes, the two found that Ji Mo was a girl chosen by the magical world, and they faced a selfish evil woman.
As a result, the two young men were involved in a new turmoil. In this confrontation of disparity in strength, the two chose to fight to the end.
