| Blender 3.x Series

An outline roadmap of Blender 3.x was introduced by Blender Foundation chairman Ton Roosendaal, giving a preview of the product updating in the following two years for the open-source 3D production software. A new version numbering convention will be used starting with Blender 3.0 this December to Blender 3.7 in 2023, a total of eight minor releases with two of these as Long Time Support (LTS) versions included.

Blender 3.0: Developing As Planned

The first release of the Blender 3.x series, Blender 3.0, which was postponed to release from original August to this December, is going well according to the schedule.

A new assets browser will be added to Blender 3.0, expected to give users a quicker access to browse, use and edit assets. Another highlights is the support preview for multiple actions, which seems going to greatly optimize the use experience while creation. The final design and feature-set for the 3.0 asset system are still under discussion and the full Asset Browser feature set is only available by enabling the Extended Asset Browser in the Experimental Features, which you can learn more details at the release notes of Asset Browser.

Another feature that many has been expected a lot is the update of its render engine. According to the release note, rendering performance is greatly improved with the following changes: rewrite the GPU core and scheduling to give a “2-7 times faster” rendering speed in real world scenes, making render hair as 3D curves instead of ribbons “significantly faster” with the support of native OptiX curve.

In addition, Blender 3.0 will add a brand new set of VR controller-based functionality
