Maxon has released the latest version of its 3D modeling and simulation software, Cinema 4D S26. The updated version comes with the support of the new CPU version of Maxon’s Redshift renderer together with many new modeling tools, a new cloth simulation system, a integrated retopology system from ZBrush and more. Get to know about what’s new with XRender!

|Now Support Redshift CPU Version

The most significant change in Cinema 4D R26 should be the integration of Redshift CPU, the new CPU version of Maxon’s previously GPU-only renderer, Redshift. The new CPU rendering mode was introduced in Redshift 3.5 earlier this week.

With the availability of Redshift in Cinema 4D, now users may render with Redshift inside Cinema 4D on CPU (Rounded Corners not included) or in hybrid mode, which uses both CPU and GPU, without the need for a separate Redshift product subscription. With the integration, users may find that Redshift works more like a “native part of Cinema 4D” and enjoy a more smooth workflow.

In addition, Redshift materials is now available in Cinema 4D’s viewport, bringing uses a better visual quality of interactive previews. You may check the whole list of the supported features here.

Other improvements including the enable to import or export “basic” Redshift material properties and textures in FBX or USD format, the OSL support of the Node Materials.

|Simulation Improvements

Based on a new unified simulation framework, the brand new cloth and splines simulation system has been added in Cinema 4D S26, enables ropes interact with cloth, multiply, to perform simulation in both CPU and GPU.

According to Maxon, the new constraint-based system is “faster … more precise, more realistic, more stable and easier to use” than the old force-based Dynamics system. You can find a detailed comparison here.

|Retopology & Modeling

Another important updated that was achieved based cooperation with a third-party, is the change of C4D’s Remesh Object. ZRemesher is now integrated into Cinema 4D’s Remesh object, and generates cleaner topology than the legacy Instant Mesh algorithm. What’s more, Quad Remesh Node offers procedural remeshing within Capsules/Scene Nodes.

A series of new modeling tool have also been updated in the latest version, such as Bridge, Grid, Equal Spacing, Fit Circle, Flatten, Set Flow, Smooth Edges and so on.

| Pricing and availability

Cinema 4D S26 is available for Windows 10 and macOS 10.14.6+, but Maxon recommends macOS 10.15.7+. The update is only available to users with active subscriptions, which cost $94/month or $719/year.

New perpetual licences cost $3,495, with the new features in S26 due to become available to perpetual licence holders via a separate update later this year, assuming Maxon follows its normal release schedule.
